Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Sparks Heated Debates Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Recently, the game developers introduced a new game mode called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but features several key adjustments:
- Every squad includes only 8 human participants, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
- Activities done by real players award complete experience points, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
- Only two maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Elements like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.
In short, this mode delivers on its name: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it gives additional choices for players looking for different ways to have fun with the game. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many Battlefield 6 players are upset.
Community Responses: From Fury to Praise
"People want human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," states a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," says another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," and another details everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."
On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are players who have lives and don't play this game 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," states another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," while someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Criticisms and Community Feedback
All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase queue times even longer for other modes due to the sheer number of options in the game already. Similarly, certain regions often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the community meeting them halfway, as per forum feedback. A different user labels this addition as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?
If the development team has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
