Patrick Bamford Joins the Blades After Initiating Derogatory Chants Targeting Manager Wilder

Patrick Bamford has joined the Championship side only half a year after instigating derogatory taunts directed at the team's coach, Chris Wilder.

The 32-year-old striker, a free agent since leaving Leeds, has agreed to a agreement with the second-tier strugglers until January. His seven-year time at Elland Road was ended by mutual consent in August.

Among the player's final notable acts while at Leeds included starting insulting songs about Chris Wilder during Leeds' promotion party in April. Now, the former England player is set to play for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to rescue the team he loves away from the relegation zone.

Past Conflict Between the Striker and Wilder

The pair had a past prior to Leeds won promotion to the Premier League the previous campaign and United were defeated in the playoff final to Sunderland. The manager described Bamford as a "muppet" when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and the Blades secured direct promotion while Leeds United fell short in the promotion playoffs.

Reconciliation & Looking Ahead

Everything appears has been resolved with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, urgently requiring of improvement up front while Bamford hoping to rejuvenate his career.

The song about Wilder went viral in April. A repentant Bamford and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, called Wilder the next day.

Chris Wilder stated at the time: “Spoke with Pat recently and I have no problem at all with it. I’m not sure about the language from a fellow professional! But I valued and admired him calling me.

“We had a short while and the same again I spoke to Daniel too and we had a longer discussion together and he is a super guy, a class act. Back in my playing days we used to give it and take it and that is part and parcel of football across all levels, even on Sunday league. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with the situation and I said that to Pat.”
