Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was natural for doubts to be asked about his future following a further heavy defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their ninth loss in 12 games, marking the club's worst streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received plenty of backing from management,” the coach stated.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and secure a win naturally but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I accept my situation. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to elaborate on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard discussions I feel the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat so far so we'll see.”
Persistent Failings and Player Reaction
Slot highlighted recurring weaknesses from his team in their European defeat, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder stated.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a period such as this with performances this poor.”
He finished, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And as long as it is removed, we’re always going to compete.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad back to its rightful place, prove once more what this club is about and why people call it the top club in the planet.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
