The Gory Cartoon Movie Conclusion That Stays With Audiences
Out of all the adult-oriented cartoon movies I have ever watched, no other has lingered in my mind quite like the fear-filled ending of a viscerally violent and overwhelingly transgressive 2022 movie The Unicorn Wars.
In the year 2015, this Spanish writer-director created a grim, melancholy , often savage world with some tiny , forlorn glimmers of optimism.
While The Unicorn Wars feels like it came from a desire to expand animation even more, the filmmaker stated that it was more an effort to express a global, multicultural theme concerning “the shared root of each battle.”
That idea is expressed by means of a band of colorful pastel bears , obviously modeled after a well-known line of cuddly figures.
Maturing in a community centered on aggression and the defense industry, numerous the bears are obsessed with slaughtering unicorns, because of a holy book that claims them they used to be masters of the woods, until the unicorns drove them out.
A few did not entirely bought into the brainwashing, , would rather sample substances and engage sexually in the woods.
In contrast to their cuddly counterparts, these vivid animals show genitals and definite urges.
For one notably brutal, pessimistic creature, the bear named Bluey, the conflict against unicorns becomes a path toward dominance — and particularly to dominance above his gentler, more compassionate sibling the character Tubby.
This bear is a bully , an obvious antisocial figure , and when horror takes over his squad and claims his comrades individually, he takes increasingly power on his own behalf, through ever more gory, destructive ways.
Meanwhile, the horned creatures are suffering their own horror, in the form of a growing, harmful creature in their woods.
“In the early stages, it feels like a comedy,” the director stated. “However it becomes a more dramatic and melancholic movie. And ultimately, it’s a horror film.”
The Unicorn Wars starts out resembling among the playful movies from an iconic filmmaker, that uncover a mischievous joy in permitting drawn beings curse, fire weapons, or sex each other up.
Then it turns into more akin to a darker film by that same artist, with increasingly explicit brutality and a palpable link to the real suffering of conflict.
In the finale, it is a full-on theatrical horror bloodbath.
The fear which makes this an ideal spooky-season viewing kicks in much sooner than one might expect.
Unicorn Wars is suited for the devoted lovers of violence, for lovers of intense movies who desire to see something they haven’t ever viewed until now, and are able to withstand a story that offers absolutely no punches.
View it in a dimly lit space with no disturbances, and the finale will burrow under your skin and stay with you.
