The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the WSL side.

Her exit from Munich was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
