This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as sparing holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a prosperous future without fear.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The swine, donated by a local firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six-seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The trend became so widespread that a major dictionary recently declared “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.
“It embodies the character of Miami: happy, varied, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Annually, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
