Thrice-crowned award winner Jokic suffers a 'heartbreaking' knee injury.
Three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic sustained a "gut-wrenching" injury to his knee while the Nuggets fell by a score of 147-123 at the Heat.
The star player injured himself in the latter stages of the opening half in an accidental coming together with fellow Nugget Spencer Jones.
His teammate came down on the foot of Jokic, who immediately went down to the floor clutching his knee.
The veteran player, who leads the league this season in boards and assists, had 21 points and eight dimes in the contest prior to suffering the problem.
Jokic will undergo an MRI scan on the following day to evaluate the severity of the issue.
"Instantly, he realized he was hurt," stated Nuggets coach David Adelman.
"This happens in professional sports. Any player who suffers an injury, it's difficult, most notably somebody as important as him. We will know more on Tuesday."
"We will continue as a team. Of course, right now, I'm more worried primarily about him as a person and the frustration of experiencing a situation like that."
