The Manager's Stance on Celtic

McKenna described the Glasgow giants as "a really big soccer institution" but emphasized he is "in the middle" of a "extensive rebuilding" with the Championship side.

The mid-thirties assumed control of Ipswich in recent years and led them to the Premier League with consecutive elevations, but they managed only a handful of victories last campaign as they were demoted back to the Championship and they currently sit 12th in the Championship.

"I have not had any of those conversations," the London-born former Irish youth international said when questioned about being on the candidate list.

"This isn't a matter I have considered seriously, or where any portion of my concentration is this week.

"I have a special position here at a remarkable team. And we're at a crucial phase of the season. Anything outside of that hasn't reached my awareness."

Background and Agreement Details

It has been suggested that McKenna would be open to speaking to Celtic given his childhood support.

"During youth, we all have our affinities," he said when asked about these. "It's unlikely everyone has to publicly and declare what they used to be, but of course it's a really big football club."

The coach agreed to a fresh multi-year deal in last year and was asked about his reported £5m release clause.

"Throughout coaching agreements, there are provisions," he responded. "I'm unaware what my specific terms are and, if I did, I wouldn't tell you regardless!

"I tackle this role like I'll be Ipswich manager indefinitely. I know that's not always going to be the situation, but I will consistently give maximum effort as while I remain in position."

Bellamy's Position

The former striker played for the Hoops on loan from Newcastle United in the mid-2000s, but the ex- Welsh striker is inclined to complete the current global tournament qualification, a stance that would effectively rule out the 46-year-old from assuming the Celtic job.

Wales are currently third in their World Cup group behind leaders Belgium and runners-up Macedonia.

Wins over Liechtenstein and their rivals in November would secure their place in the final qualifying round, but they are all but assured of making those, due to a successful European competition campaign, should they fail to finish as their group runners-up.

Given his current position, Bellamy, whose contract expires after Euro 2028, would not be available until following the play-offs at the earliest.
